Wall Street Journal had a chance to interview Justin Timberlake, Trace Ayala and Colin Dyne about their successful clothing line William Rast. Enjoy!

WSJ: Tell me about how the brand has evolved since you launched it four years ago.

Justin Timberlake: Our goal is a small level of success, and we are happy to have it. We feel we've made the right steps to ensure we can stick around for a long time. That means actually doing the work.

WSJ: In recent years, dozens of celebrities have started apparel brands. Now many of them are disappearing, either because of the economy, or because the celebrity is no longer in the public eye, or the clothes were bad, or whatever. What do you think when you look around and see all of that happening?

JT: When we first put this together, I said that I want to treat this like everything you just mentioned doesn't exist. We have to do the work. We have to do it the right way. We are not looking to cash in.

WSJ: Is breaking into the fashion industry harder than you thought it would be?

JT: It's harder in general. It's hard period. It's hard without being able to get your foot in the door. In some respects, the stakes are higher [when you are a celebrity, because the retailers often take on a collection right at the outset.]

WSJ: How did getting Johan and Marcella Lindeberg involved [by hiring them to design the collection in late 2007] change the way the brand was perceived by the retail world, and fashion insiders?

JT: We've always wanted to be a lifestyle brand. I went with Colin [Dyne, William Rast's chief executive] and we sat with Johan and I said, "I would like to start...moving the company forward with you." It seemed like a cool challenge [to expand the line into a full lifestyle collection]. It helped us have a creative team that focused the energy that we had. The things that we were green to, they taught us. They taught us a lot.

WSJ: Like what?

JT: Just how to take an idea from a concept to a reality. Just about the steps along the way. [Although the Lindebergs and William Rast ended their contract in December 2008] we still want to keep them on as consultants. They want to move in a direction where they can do the same thing they did with us for other brands, if they wish. To be honest, we took up a lot of their time.

WSJ: What did you learn through this whole experience of launching the brand at Los Angeles Fashion Week, then stepping back and hiring well-known professional designers?

Trace Ayala: I think when we initially did this we jumped into the collection right off the bat...we were excited, and we wanted to do everything.

JT: Creatively, we thought it was important to come out with a full collection. We didn't want to be just a jeans brand. We don't want to be just a knits brand. It was expensive and hard to focus the direction [of the collection]. That's where Johan and Marcella came in... We are happy where [the brand] is, and we see a million places where it can go.

All three of us [him, Mr. Dyne and Mr. Ayala] believe in hard work. I don't want to get to idealistic while talking to the Wall Street Journal [laughs].

WSJ: Why isn't William Rast doing a fashion show this season?

Colin Dyne: We went on a European tour--Selfridges [in London], Collette [in Paris] and in Berlin, and now here at Saks.... In the turmoil of the industry, doing a fashion show is like throwing something at the wind. In this environment I don't think it makes sense. For fall 2010 we will be there.

JT: Also, all the designers are saying, 'Why don't we just do fashion shows for the public?' And, it's not a terrible idea. I think hard times bring out good things in people.

WSJ: How do you think the collections looked this season? It seems like the economic pressure is bringing out some good design.

JT: Everyone stopped being so gluttonous with the design. Everything looks really good. [Collections are] pretty tight.

Obscura CueLight Pool Table

Obscura Digital has come out with a pool table projection system with sensors to create a very cool effect. The projector lies overhead and displays an image onto the pool table that interacts with the movement of the balls. Although the default is for the balls to reveal a "hidden" image underneath it, you can set it to simulate water ripples or even flames that trail the balls. This system isn't cheap either. The projector is $80,000 by itself and the pool table costs $120,000. That's right. You could buy two Audi R8's or a fully loaded Bentley GT Coupe.... or this pool table. Hmm. I guess this is for the guy who ran out of space in his 10-car garage.

All New McLaren MP4-12C

Before the Bugatti Veyron was created, the McLaren F1 was the world's fastest car over a decade ago. Since then, the racing powerhouse has collaborated with Mercedes to produce the McLaren SLR, which has been one of the most amazing cars. Now, they have finally unveiled a solo effort called the MP4-12C. The styling is modern and beautiful, and it contains a twin-turbo V8 pushing 600 horses with 433 lb-ft of torque. This car sports the highest power-to-emissions ratio on any engine on the market.

The MP4-12C will retail $265,000. Not bad if you consider the McLaren F1 was $970,000 and the SLR is around $500,000.

Jay-Z Wearing PRPS @ MTV VMA's

PRPS and Jay-Z seem to have something in common at the moment. They're currently the hottest they've ever been respectively. So I think it's very fitting that Jay-Z wore a PRPS outfit during the grand finale performance at the MTV VMA's. I like how Jay-Z is trying to push out the old hip-hop wear and starting to incorporate current fashion trends into his outfits. The huge return of denim jackets, along with the insurgence of truly high quality denim is a movement that the leader of Roc Nation seems to know well.

Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 album, which I hope you have bought, has propelled him past Elvis Presley for the most No. 1 albums in history by a solo artist. He is second to only The Beatles who have a grand 19 No. 1 albums. Personally, I stopped listening to rap a few years ago, but I do still listen to Jay-Z. This is by far his best album since The Black Album and maybe even since The Blueprint.

PRPS has started in the celeb world with people like Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and David Beckham (who only wears PRPS). They have expanded into women's denim in the past year and the reaction has been astounding. Celebs from Katie Holmes to Victoria Beckham to Lindsay Lohan now frequent the line. It is clear why the reaction has been great: they have amazing washes and treatments that are very unique, the cotton they use is of the best quality and the fabrication in Otokawa, Japan is phenomenal.

I really hope they both keep getting better and better!

Porsche has unveiled its 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. This beautiful car is powered by a 3.8L motor that redlines at 8,500 rpm and punching out 450-hp. The 2010 GT3 pounds out more power with less weight and shorter transmission ratios. The handling has also improved with the addition of Porsche's PASM [Porsche Active Suspension Management].

New for Porsche is the lithium-ion battery that replaces the conventional lead acid battery, which effectively reduces the weight by 22 lbs. The 911 can be yours in early Spring of 2010 for $132,800 US.

They have fully embraced mother nature's H2O to the point where it uses 25% less energy than dry land alternatives by using the surrounding water to cool the building. Yes, that's right. $1,000,000 for ONE speaker. Which means you need TWO of these to have stereo sound. Which means you need FIVE of these to have full surround sound. That's right folks. A $5 million dollar Ultimate home theater. Why does it cost so much? Well, standing at seven feet tall and about twenty feet wide, one speaker contains forty 15-inch subwoofers, twenty-four 8-inch woofers and a vast amount of 2-inch wide and 1-inch wide ribbon tweeters! This extremely limited modification of the prized Aston Martin Vantage GT is just stunning. Although there are no power modifications, it is lightened by replacing existing parts with carbon fiber body panels and interior and widened with bespoke fenders. This is the same company that did Lamborghini's Gallardo Superleggara and Ferrari's F430 Scuderia. How limited will this production be? Only 30 cars in the world, whereas there were 1,500 Scuderia's and 172 Superleggara's. The price also reflects the exclusivity of the product. $173,000 US. Oh yeah. Almost forgot. The Aston Martin is sold seperately. Total cost of the car comes to $309,500.

That's what life is like with Roger Federer, who has won the most grand-slam titles in men's tennis history. The suite is not the most expensive by any means ($3,000/night), however, the interior decoration is stunning. The living room is exquisite, utilizing mostly black and white with gold accents. The colours used in the bedroom are very relaxing, with a creamy texture. Tesla's Fully Electric Car

While we were in Toronto, we were fortunate enough to meet the Canadian rep of Tesla Motors. The overview of the company's future is inspiring and we really hope everything comes to fruition without any hiccups. Tesla Motors was started by Elon Musk, the multi-billionaire genius/entrepreneur/philanthropist behind PayPal, AltaVista, SpaceX and more. They have created the first fully electric highway capable vehicle. And they did it in style. The new Tesla Roadster Sport not only looks amazing, it is actually as fast as it looks. It goes from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds while it redlines at 14,000 rpm with 288 bhp. It can drive nearly 400 km before it has to be charged (yes, it can be plugged into a wall outlet, although that's not the most efficient method). The most interesting factor is that there are no gears, so there is no shifting to be done. I guess you can call it a simple eco-friendly super quick stealth ninja on wheels.

Chromed Out Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster

We already showed you the chromed out Audi R8 we found. Now it's Lamborghini's turn. The car was spotted in the UK, but apparently it is from Dubai (notice the driver's on the left side). Also, the chrome is actually a paint technique they use, in which they coat the car and then it is polished to a shine. Regardless, this will get looks from everyone (as if a Murcielago couldn't get looks without the chrome). The only thing I'm wondering is why the rims aren't chrome. He probably had such good taste that he didn't want to overdo the chrome...?

This beautiful piece of work is done by Clearaudio, who has put out a new edition of the Emotion turntable. Named the Emotion SE, it features a 0.8″ thick acrylic chassis, 1.1″ precision machined GS-PMMA acrylic platter, high-mass motor damping base and an aluminum arm base. It would be pretty sweet to see these at the clubs, but I doubt that would happen in Vancouver. Interested? Yours for a mere $2,800.

We are in Toronto to buy clothes for the Spring/Summer 2010 season. We are very excited to be bringing you more of what we have to offer. We'll give you guys an update when we get back on what's going to be hot this season and anything else we find to be interesting.

*** Edit: So Toronto was a success! We're very happy with what we are going to be receiving for Hugo Boss and Eton. Checks are still going to be popular this upcoming Spring season, along with lots of colour for next Summer. With shirts, the contrast collar and placket detailing are getting even more popular. It's still a long ways until we'll see the items, but we are excited nonetheless.

If you are familiar with our store and Belstaff, you already know that Belstaff has produced jackets for some of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters out there. I think AutoBlog's write-up on the 997 was perfect so I won't even touch it. Here it is:

Nice. $8,000 for a poker set nice. That's how nice this Asprey poker set is. Made out of real crocodile skin, it'll redefine "poker night with the boys". At that price tag, it's no surprise that the chips are ceramic and the crocodile portion is handmade by Asprey, a UK company infamous for making lavish items for the rich. I'm sure it won't be hard to convince girls to ante up for a game of strip poker when you got this in your living room.

It seems like there's a lot of criticism towards BMW bikes for the lack of sportiness in their previous models. Say no more. The new BMW S1000RR squashes the sportbike competition with styling aggressive enough to please a high school kid's bedroom wall. Dom Rebel Fall 2009 Teaser

Dom Rebel has put out a teaser picture to promote their upcoming collection. I've already seen this Fall's new line, rightfully named Vicious Tales, and I can tell you that Dom Rebel has grown and evolved exactly when it had to. The new designs are a bit more subtle with nice use of black to darken up the previously bright line. Although it still has the Dom Rebel-esque raw edge and grit, it has taken on a cleaner and sophisticated look. I love the use of sexy women on the t-shirts and how "each shirt has a filthy little story that goes with it..." Speaking to Justin in Vegas just after he finished the collection was interesting because it was clear that he was onto something bigger than the blandness that has taken over the fashion scene recently. While many of the other designers were on cruise control, Dom Rebel was digging in and working overtime to reinvent the line without disregarding the things we love Dom Rebel for. Can't wait to see the new pieces in our store!

The Audi R8. In Chrome. Wow.

A beautiful car, in my opinion, does not need to be chromed out. I don't think it really adds to it except to make it stand out a bit too much. That being said, if you gave me one, I would drive it all day everyday. This is definitely a car that can go into the Ballin' category.

YachtPlus launches a super yacht

Definitely one of the nicest yachts I've ever seen. Imagine just living on this thing. I'd have no complaints of not having contact with the outside world. Love all the detailing, especially the dark chrome finish along the inside of the boat.

Justin Timberlake out and about wearing William Rast as usual. Funny how so many other celebrity lines are failing, yet William Rast is growing at a rapid pace. I think it has to do with the quality of the garments and being designed by a reputable designer. Johan Lindeberg and his design company Paris68 is doing a great job at making clothes that are casual enough for the North American market, yet stylish enough for Justin Timberlake!
